We are all in this together!

As Fijians unite to flatten the curve and stop the spread of COVID-19 in Fiji through curfews and lockdowns, this also means that not all vets are readily available. SPCA Fiji Islands remains open but is reducing its hours and focusing on shelter animals, emergency care and animal welfare needs.

YOU can help reduce the pressure on our staff by taking extra precautions to protect your pets and other animals from harm. Here are some suggestions :

Driving? Be Animal Aware. If you hit an animal it may suffer for days before it dies without medical attention. Do you really want that on your conscience? Consider the consequences and become an Animal Aware Driver!

Keep your pets safe inside your home or in a fenced area, provide adequate food and water, and place chemicals and poisons safely out of reach.

If your pet is not fully vaccinated or has not been desexed, keep it away from other animals. This will reduce risk of disease transmission such as parvo virus, and prevent unwanted litters during this period of uncertainty.

Are you concerned about a stray animal? If you can, take it in, give it shelter and feed it. Many “strays” at this time seem to have been abandoned and they do not know how to live off the street. SPCA shelter is full and staff are limited. Your assistance now will help save these animal lives.

Have you seen an animal in distress? (Bleeding, broken leg, etc). Call SPCA on 9980023 (working hours) or 9922634 (after hours) for assistance.
