An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate, committed veterinarian in our busy, non-profit animal shelter and clinic in the beautiful Fiji Islands.
​
The SPCA Fiji Islands is a small animal shelter and veterinary clinic located in the heart of Fiji’s capital city of Suva. In addition to providing veterinary services to stray animals and our shelter population, our team of veterinarians, veterinary interns and veterinary nurses provides a broad range of veterinary services to client-owned cats and dogs through our clinic and surgery. SPCA has basic facility for examinations, radiography and surgery, and ongoing works for the comfort of shelter animals.

The role offers a diverse medical and surgical caseload in a supportive environment, with access to mentorship and liaison with other veterinarians in Fiji and abroad. Our clinic offers rich and diverse experiences that are often unavailable in larger clinics in more developed countries.

Salary will be paid in Fiji dollars at an attractive local rate commensurate with experience. The remuneration package will include shared accommodation, transport to and from SPCA, and opportunities for subsidised travel to some of Fiji’s most beautiful locations.

FULL TIME VETERINARIAN POSITION DESCRIPTION (updated)
This position is based in Suva, Fiji at the SPCA Clinic and Shelter.
The Veterinarian will work with other SPCA Veterinarians, including visiting vets, to develop a work plan and roster that will enable the most efficient and cost effective approach to providing clinic and shelter services and attending to outreach clinics.
The Veterinarian will follow the Standard Operating Procedures of the SPCA and liaise with the Clinic Team and Manager as needed.
The Veterinarian will:

Provide quality veterinarian services and support to all our clients and shelter animals.

Provide consulting services and assist with SPCA’s client and shelter desexing surgeries.

Support the SPCA’s community outreach and welfare programmes through paid community clinics.

Apply and promote best possible practice in the running of the Clinic and Shelter, including ensuring hygiene and cleanliness in all areas and proper maintenance of clinic equipment.

Ensure all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed and, where gaps are identified, make the Clinic Team and Manager are aware of this.

Ensure all medical, nutritional and welfare (physical, emotional) needs of shelter animals are addressed.

Ensure cleanliness and proper care level throughout the shelter and clinic environments.

Alert the Manager of any OHS issues promptly and take steps to ensure the safety of other staff, clients and animals until such issues are rectified.

Advise the Manager on stock needs or issues.

Promote SPCA’s culture of continuous learning and growth and participate in staff meetings, retreats and professional development programmes.
